It’s time to turn your
flute frustrations into
forces for good.

Frustrated every time you make a mistake?

Love school band but it leaves you wanting more?

Questions about music but you can’t find the answers?

Always comparing yourself to others instead of embracing what makes you unique?

I can help you.

Because I don’t just teach flute, I teach people.

Over the course of lessons, you will improve your tongue/technique/tone, and:

  • Have fun! Laughter is encouraged (if it’s laughing at our funky-sounding mistakes….even better)!

    1. Build confidence by succeeding at difficult things (can you play your chromatic scale in less than 20 seconds? 10? With your eyes closed?)

    2. Practice processes that will ultimately allow you to become your own best teacher (you will learn how to ask the right questions and how to find the answer key...I don’t call it cheating, I call it “using your resources”)

    3. Learn a lifelong skill that can bring joy to those who hear our music (channel your inner Lizzo)!

My teaching journey

I started teaching my first flute student when I was 17. She was a beginner and a fast learner but struggled with the low notes. Sound familiar? I had always struggled with my low notes too so I didn’t quite know how to help her...but I did know that I really loved teaching.

I went on to become a band director and that’s when I really learned how to teach, and more specifically, I found out how rewarding it is to help individuals overcome their unique challenges during private lessons. On the flip side, I learned that teaching a group of 80 band students at once was not for me!

That’s when I decided I wanted to become a flute expert, and I completed a master’s degree in flute performance. I haven’t stopped learning and I finally figured out how to feel confident with my low notes (the solution was actually quite simple)! I’ve now been teaching flute for half my life (you do the math) and I love learning from my students which tools in my flute toolbox work best for them.
